helpNYC is looking for a dedicated housing advocate to help with the management and administration of the Housing Voucher Initiative
 
About the Housing Voucher Initiative
helpNYC and Neighbors Together lead a citywide initiative to help housing voucher holders and landlords that can provide them housing.  The group of nonprofits, realtors, landlords, city agencies and advocacy groups meet bi-weekly to share updates on their efforts to assist New Yorkers experiencing homelessness find safe and permeant housing. In addition to sharing information, the Initiative hopes to develop a comprehensive guidance document that will cover all aspects of the housing voucher and apartment search process in New York City to empower those who need housing to find housing easily. 
 
Position Responsibilities Attend virtual meetings on Zoom. Maintain copious meeting minutes and a document library of resources. Attend biweekly Initiative Meetings and meet with leadership weekly to discuss Initiative Tasks Take on projects related to the initiative as needed. Participate in and provide support to helpNYC events as needed. Transcribe information from various sources and formats into Google Sheets documents.

Position Requirements 18 years of age or older Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.  Post-secondary education completion is preferred.  Fluency in the English language.  Excellent written and spoken grammar required. New York City Resident (Undocumented New Yorkers are welcome to apply as long as they reside in New York City.) Ability to meet weekly on Thursdays for 3-4 hours. Comprehensive understanding of the housing voucher programs in New York City. (CityFEPS, FedFEPS, Housing Choice Voucher, Emergency Housing Voucher, HASA, etc.) Excellent knowledge and experience with Google Workspace. Excellent knowledge and experience with Zoom. Experience and knowledge in taking meeting notes and creating a recap. Ability to take on other tasks as directed by Initiative Members. Personal computer with reliable high-speed internet access.

However, that system of services and resources is extremely challenging to navigate for even the most resourceful of individuals.  helpNYC actively works to use technology, best practices, language, and other innovative methods to eliminate barriers and stigmas for those in need to access services, resources, and information from our programs.
