| Community Update: November 13thDear Friend, I hope you’ve been well. As I write to you, I’m reminded of what a privilege it is to be an American citizen. Alongside CUNY Citizenship Now! and Council Member Shahana Hanif, my office hosted a successful “Become a Citizen” event in which we were able to connect nearly 100 of our neighbors with legal assistance to help them on the path to citizenship. As an immigrant myself, this event really meant a lot to me. With all of the issues that are facing our country, it’s important for us to remember how many people from around the world desperately want to be American citizens. As tough as things can be sometimes, we have the privilege of living in the greatest country on the planet. I’m excited to share that my office has a number of upcoming events my office has helped to organize. Please feel free to spread the word to any individuals or groups who may be interested in them. 1) My office, in partnership with Citizens Committee for New York City, has an upcoming info session on December 14th for their All In Neighborhood Grant, which awards grants to community projects. Join the meeting to learn about how you can get access to these funds! Register here. 2) Umma Park, at Woodruff and Ocean Avenues, will be upgraded and NYC Parks has organized a public input session so that you can share your ideas for how the park can be improved. The meeting will be on Wednesday, December 14th at 7PM on Zoom. Register here. 3) My office is co-hosting an exciting toy giveaway on December 19th! Starting on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 CUNY Citizenship NOW will provide services at our district office at 930 Flatbush Avenue every Tuesday from 10AM to 6PM.
