Dear families,

If your child was born in 2020, they can attend 3-K in fall 2023! Before the 3-K application opens in late January, we encourage you to learn about the four different program settings that offer 3-K. Today, we’ll spotlight New York City Early Education Centers (NYCEECs).

NYCEECs are community-based organizations selected through a rigorous evaluation process that partner with the DOE to provide 3-K. They may be located in daycare centers, private schools, parochial schools and others. If a NYCEEC is listed in MySchools, it offers a public 3-K program that provides free or low cost early care and education for NYC families. Many NYCEECs also offer Extended Day and Year and Head Start seats for families who are eligible based on income and needs. Some programs also offer early drop off or late pick up services. Visit a program’s MySchools page for more information.

All NYC children born in 2020 may apply for admission to NYCEECs. Current students at the NYCEEC, siblings, applicants who receive social services from the organization that runs the program, and applicants who live in the district receive priority for 3-K seats at each NYCEEC.

You might consider this setting if:

  • You’d like to send your child to a program run by an organization with strong ties to your neighborhood and/or community
  • Your family receives social services from the organization that runs the center
  • You need early drop off or after school options for your child—many programs offer early drop off and/or late pickup services.
  • You’d like different seat options such as School Day seats, Extended Day and Year, or Head Start seats.
