Immigrant Ambassador Program (IAP) Office Hours with Community Ambassadors

IAP is hosting a series of virtual office hours on specific topics for high school immigrant students to receive one-on-one support during their Midwinter Recess. Please share this overview of the upcoming events with your high school students:

Recordings of Culturally Responsive Family Engagement Training: Session 1, 2, 3, & 4

You can view recordings of sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the citywide training series on culturally responsive family engagement. The newly added session 4 focuses on West African communities with a special focus on African Muslims. Please note that recordings may take time to load due to the size of the file. If the recording doesn’t load, we recommend downloading it to your desktop. For questions, email dml@schools.nyc.gov.

Call for Feedback: Scaffolded Core Curriculum Units for MLs and ELLs

Please complete this survey to help us better understand how our scaffolded units were used to support instruction for MLs and ELLs, as well as make plans for future professional learning and new resources for scaffolding.  The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete—thank you in advance for your time!

Refer Teachers for Extended Certification Programs Today!

The NYC Department of Education is offering Extended Certification Programs for the 2023-24 school year. Extended Certification Programs empower current, qualified DOE teachers to pursue an additional Bilingual Extension (grades PK-12) or Students with Disabilities certification (grades B-2, 1-6, or 7-12) through the completion of subsidized graduate-level coursework. These programs also enable schools to expand the capacity and quality of their teaching staff and ensure that hard-to-staff vacancies are filled by current, veteran teachers in the school’s community.

Accepted candidates will enroll in a cohort either through a partner college or university or through the NYC Specialized Teacher Enhancement Pathway’s (NYC STEP) district-led certification program. After completing their certification program, participants commit to teaching in their new license area for the following two years.

NYC Teaching Fellows 2023

The NYC Teaching Fellows 2023 application is open through March 23rd! School staff interested in learning more about the program can refer to this flyer and attend an upcoming online webinar.  As a refresher, the Fellows program features a 7-week summer training model that leads to full-time teaching positions in Title I schools throughout the city.

This year, we’ve made a few additions to the subject areas offered: Bilingual Education in Mandarin, Bilingual Education in Russian, Bilingual Education in Spanish, and Spanish Language Immersion. Kindly forward this information to those who meet the requirements for our language subject areas.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and applying early is highly recommended. If you have questions, reach out to support@nycteachingfellows.zendesk.com.
