Opportunity for Select Schools to Apply to Immigrant Ambassador Program

The DOE is relaunching the Immigrant Ambassador Program (IAP), a near-peer mentorship and community awareness program designed to prioritize postsecondary planning for immigrant high school students, for the 2023–24 school year. Through this program, select NYC college students will be trained to provide one-on-one and small group workshops and support to students who reflect historically excluded immigrant communities. Programming will occur from the end of August 2023 through June 2024.

If you are interested in hosting an IAP at your school, you should identify a high school counselor, administrator, teacher, or DOE alumnus to complete the application by April 5. Note that the immigrant ambassador must be supervised by a high school counselor (point person) who will check in with them weekly, identify goals with the ambassador, ensure the ambassador is integrated into the school community, and identify immigrant high school students to be supported by ambassadors; mandatory training is required for the selected counselor to assume the position of point person. The training will be held in August and will be provided per session to help fund their ongoing participation in the program.
