FDNY Invites Middle Schools and High Schools to Participate in Virtual CPR Training (June 1)

Good day!

FDNY wants to partner with your school. CPR saves lives! Annually CPR/AED Awareness week is celebrated nationally June 1-7. During this week, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) coordinates events throughout the city to enhance awareness of how lives can be saved by learning compressions-only CPR and how to use an AED.

Early CPR and the use of an AED have been shown to dramatically increase the chance of survival in victims who experience sudden cardiac arrest. The first few minutes after a person goes into cardiac arrest are the most critical. Bystanders who witness or encounter a person in cardiac arrest are the ones who can maintain blood flow to the vital organs by performing chest compressions, improving a person’s chances of survival.

This year the FDNY is hosting a VIRTUAL training geared toward students in Grades 6-12th. This interactive workshop will be LIVE streamed on June 1 at 10am. For the first time, we will offer the same training in Spanish at 12pm.  The training will offer participants a 35-minute workshop that includes:

  •     Skill demonstrations for performing hands-only CPR.
  •     Basic instruction on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  •     Questions and Answers
