INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING PUBLIC HEARING

The Office of the Manhattan Borough President would like to invite you to submit testimony to our upcoming Public Hearing on Hybrid Meetings for Public Bodies, which will take place on Thursday, December 14th at 11AM. This meeting will be hybrid, with the option of participating in person at 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor, or virtually via zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_srl35JxgSHqiko4ABV-8kA). Background:

In accordance with New York State Open Meetings Law § 103-A, public bodies including community boards and other public boards have been given the option of operating hybrid meetings. This change in the Open Meetings Law is set to expire July 1, 2024. Ahead of this statute expiring, the NYS Committee on Open Government will issue a report to the governor and New York Sate legislature on the application and implementation of hybrid meetings, as well as recommendations related to the use of videoconferencing moving forward after July 2024.

The Manhattan Borough President’s Office is hosting this Public Hearing to gather feedback from the public on the benefits, strengths, challenges and shortcomings of videoconferencing and hybrid meetings, as well as recommendations for how to improve access, participation, and overall engagement in local public meetings. All testimony will be submitted to the NYS Committee on Open Government.
