Dear families,

The 3-K application is now open for fall 2024! If you live in New York City and have a child born in 2021, you can apply to 3-K any time by March 1, 2024! Admissions is not first come, first served: there is no advantage to applying early and all applications received by the deadline are treated the same.

You can apply in one of three ways:

  1. Online with Myschools.nyc—Recommended! Create your account today. You’ll use MySchools to explore 3-K program options, find great choices for your child’s application, apply to 3-K, and get your child’s results later this spring! Watch these video tutorials to learn how to create your MySchools account and how to apply.
  2. By phone at 718-935-2009. Call us Monday-Friday between 8am and 6pm.
  3. Contact a Family Welcome Center. Learn how at schools.nyc.gov/FWC.

Translation and interpretation services are available through each application pathway.

As you’re beginning to apply, here are some tips in building a strong application:

  • Learn about 3-K setting types and seat types! 3-K is offered in four different settings across NYC, and schools may offer more than one seat type. All applicants are eligible for School Day seats. Extended Day and Year and Head Start seats are options for families who meet income and need eligibility requirements. You can learn more at nyc.gov/3K.
  • The more choices you list on the application, the more opportunities to receive an offer to a program you prefer. We recommend including choices where your child has a high priority for admission. Some schools give priority to applicants who are current students, siblings, or who live in their zone or district. Please visit nyc.gov/3K to learn more about admissions priorities, and School Search to learn what school district you live in.
  • List your choices in true preference order – list your top choice first, and so on. Your child’s admissions priority at a particular school is the same, no matter where you list the program on your application. We try our best to match every child with their highest possible choice. Schools cannot see your application.
  • You can list up to 12 choices on the application, and you can apply to all programs you are interested in, including those outside of your zone or district.

Due to limited seat availability, not all applicants who apply by the deadline will be made an offer. Please visit nyc.gov/3K for more information.
