Community Share: Paid Summer Research Opportunities for High School Students and STEM Teachers

Dear Community Members

We are sharing an announcement that applications are NOW OPEN to accept participants into the summer 2024 cohorts of the My Streetscape Summer Research Institute for high school students and the CS3 Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Program. All students and teachers accepted into this program are paid a stipend for their participation.

Applications will be accepted until the end of March for these two programs, and you will find information about each through their respective links: My Streetscape Summer Research Institute (high school students) and CS3 Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Program (STEM teachers). Participants in both programs will work closely with CS3 researchers from Columbia University and Lehman College and gain firsthand experience in cutting-edge projects related to smart streetscapes and urban technology – with an emphasis on community impact.

It is our hope to recruit students and teachers from Harlem schools as part of our focus on engaging Harlem community members to ensure that research on solving streetscape problems is developed in partnership with residents of Harlem. More information about these programs is available at the Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3) website. We have  also attached their respective flyers—please feel free to share with students and teachers.

If you have any questions about these opportunities, please reach out Fernanda Martinez – fm2777@columbia.edu or 212.853.4660. Fernanda is the Engineering Workforce Development Manager at CS3 and is also cc’d to this email for your convenience.
