 We’ve made it through the school year and now it’s time for some rest, relaxation and fun! Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the third annual UFT Back-to-School BBQ on Wednesday, Aug. 14. It’s sure to be a fun day for all!
 Also, be on the lookout for information on the Staten Island UFT Parent Conference taking place in the fall.

Upcoming Events
Independence Day Celebration
Come celebrate the Fourth of July at Historic Richmond Town! Meet historical interpreters, including Founding Fathers and Mothers, sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence, watch demonstrations of 19th century fireworks, enjoy special treats and more.

Admission is $16 for ages 6 and above; free for children ages 5 and under.
Date:  Thursday, July 4Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Huck Finn Fishing Tournament & Costume Contest
The Zimmer Club Youth Conservation Program is hosting its annual Huck Finn Fishing Tournament and Costume Contest. Fishing is open to children ages 5-14. All bait and tackle will be supplied, and the first 100 participants will receive a free fishing pole. The costume contest is for ages 5-18. Guidelines for Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher costumes can be found at the link below.

Both events are free to enter. You may register online or at the event. Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m., the fishing tournament runs from 9 to 11 a.m. and the costume contest will begin afterward.

NYRR Open Run: Conference House ParkNew York Road Runners (NYRR) Open Run brings weekly community-led 5k runs to neighborhood parks across the greater New York City area. The program is free and open to runners and walkers of all ages, abilities and experience levels.

Join them on weekly runs through Conference House Park. Located at the southernmost point of New York State, Conference House Park features four historic buildings that trace Staten Island’s history, breathtaking views of the Raritan Bay, extensive hiking and biking trails and more.
Date: Sundays through March 9, 2025 (Note: the June 30th session is canceled.)
Time: 9 a.m
Where: Conference House Park, 298 Satterlee St.

Back-to-School BBQ 
The UFT and New York Center for Interpersonal Development (NYCID) are hosting their third annual backpack giveaway and barbecue event. Bring the family and prep for school while enjoying the last days of summer break!

Time: Noon to 2 p.m.

Summer Camps
Camps for creative kids
Keep your kid’s creative muscles going this summer at Art Lab’s day camps. Choose from Camp Kandinsky, for ages 3-5, or Camp Picasso for ages 6-8, 6-12, or 9-12. 

Multiple camp sessions will be held throughout July and August. Morning, afternoon and all-day time slots are available. Registration starts at $270 per child.

Young People’s Day Camp
Young People’s Day Camp is offering eight weeks of fun in the sun through July and August! Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with bus transportation provided and extended hours offered. Activities include petting zoo visits, swimming, arts and crafts, sports and special field trips to museums, baseball games and more.

Sign your children up for two, four, six, or all eight weeks today. Rates start at $1,600 for two weeks.

Action-packed camps at Fun Station USA
Fun Station USA is holding nine weekly camps throughout July and August. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and features exciting activities such as laser tag, roller skating, Halloween and Christmas in July, and visits to Six Flags, Madame Tussaud’s and more!

Free lunch, bus transportation and extended hours are included. Rates vary depending on number of children and chosen weeks.

 Big Bird’s Playhouse day camps
Big Bird’s Playhouse daycare center is running two day camps this summer. Summer Camp is for children ages 2-12, while Traveling Camp is for ages 5-12 and includes special daily trips. Other camp activities include outdoor games, arts and crafts, story time and more.
