COLLEGE READINESS IN JULY

(IN-PERSON)    
Take advantage of the summer and get ready for the college admissions process with Queens Public Library! All high school students and their guardians are invited to learn about the process and receive resources to navigate college admissions beyond this summer.

 INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
Join the College Readiness team to learn about the college application timeline and what you can do now to prepare. This session will help you create a personalized plan to keep you on track and provide you with resources that support you on your college admissions journey. The workshop is open to all students, parents and guardians who are new to the process or want updated information.

Creating a list of colleges that fit your interests and budget can be challenging without the right resources. This session will provide participants with tools to make researching colleges and creating a realistic college list easier. Students, parents, and guardians who join will also receive a guide on tracking your college research and determining which schools are a safety, match, or reach.

During this session, the College Readiness team will break down common college essay questions and requirements. Students will learn strategies for starting the essay and tips on creating an impactful narrative. Participants will receive a resource packet that contains examples of college essays, guidance through the writing process, and resources for further support.

Do you need help finding and applying to scholarships to help cover the cost of college? In this session, we will provide information on finding scholarships and share strategies for applying to multiple scholarships. Participants will receive a folder containing a list of websites we recommend for scholarship search, resources for application assistance, and a scholarship application tracker.

Join the College Readiness team and set your goals for your first year of college! Work with our staff to determine what you are most looking forward to at school and create personal, academic, or professional goals to keep you on track. Participants will receive a planner to keep track of weekly, monthly, and semester-long goals and resources for first year students.

COLLEGE READINESS ONE-ON-ONE COACHING
Throughout the summer the library is hosting college coaching hours at Central Library and Cambria Heights Library. Coaching sessions are available to develop individual college admissions strategies, explore college options, and answer any questions students and their families may have. Coaches are also available to answer quick questions and provide resources that meet your college readiness needs. Appointments are available on a walk-in, first-come first-serve basis. College coaches are available over the summer to meet during the following hours:
Central Library (2pm-6pm)
Cambria Heights (1pm-4pm)
