Good morning!
I wanted to share some information and ask for your support in sharing widely!
As of SY 24, families of students with IEPs, or students age 18 and older, may opt into electronic sharing of special education documents with the Institution of Higher Education of their choice during their IEP meeting.
Students and families can contact their IEP case manager (often the special education teacher) for more information about providing this consent.
2024 graduates and/or their families may also complete this survey to opt in through August 30th, 2024.
Note that parents may only consent on behalf of students under age 18.
See attached for Local Law 18:
Int. No. 660-A
A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to establishing a program to
provide transition services for students with disabilities entering higher education
Part of the language of the law requires:
“Collaborating with relevant agencies and stakeholders to enhance awareness of such program, including, but not limited to, posting culturally appropriate information about such program on the websites of such agencies and stakeholders.”
To do this, we want to direct partner agencies/advocates to post information about our work on LL18 on their web pages wherever possible to help inform families of this opportunity to have their documents shared directly with institutions of higher education (IHEs).
We are asking folks to link to the following pages for information:
NYCPS College & Career Planning Page (section “Families of Students with Disabilities)
After High School (section “College Considerations for Students with Disabilities”)
Thank you for your continued partnership!
