Dear families,

If your child was born in 2019, they can attend pre-K in fall 2023! Before the application opens in late January, we encourage you to learn about the three different program settings that offer pre-K. Today, we will be spotlighting Pre-K Centers.

Pre-K Centers are run by the NYC DOE and only offer grades below kindergarten. Pre-K Centers prioritize children who live in the district.  Siblings and current 3-K students are also prioritized (when applicable). You can learn what district you live in by entering your address here!  Families can apply to any schools they are interested in, even if it is outside of their district.

You might consider this setting if:

  • Your child is a current 3-K student at the school and is applying for pre-K
  • Your child lives in the same district as the Pre-K Center
  • You want your child to attend a program with only young children
  • You’re interested in options located close to where you work or go to school, not just where your family lives – Pre-K Centers do not have zones, all applicants who live in the district have an equal priority

All NYC children born in 2019 can apply to Pre-K Centers. Applicants who live in the district, siblings and current 3-K students at the center (if applicable) have priority to attend.
