Hope your year is off to a great start! My name is Samira I am a Community Engagement Specialist with the New York City’s Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), the first democratically elected commission responsible for promoting inclusive civic participation for all New Yorkers.
We would be delighted if you can join us in our first People’s Power Coalition (PPC) meeting of the year! At this inaugural meeting CEC’s outreach staff will share program updates and announcements followed by a presentation on financial empowerment/free tax prep from the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection office. The presentation will cover topics such as: financial counseling services, free tax prep, predatory lending, consumer protection, business regulations, workers’ rights, and more.
The PPC is a citywide monthly meeting consisting of community based organizations, businesses, faith bases groups and city agencies created to empower and engage communities by sharing resources and partnership opportunities.
The coalition goals are:
- (1) to be a sustained message/force multiplier for civic empowerment throughout NYC – especially for our most marginalized communities
- (2) to create a community forum for mutual support and information-sharing.
- (3) to provide a wide variety of informative presentations by expert speakers
- (4) to establish a platform for partnership opportunities with CEC and stakeholders
Please join us on Tuesday, January 31st at 6:00PM by registering for our virtual Zoom meeting here. Once you register the meeting link that will be sent is valid through June. Meetings for the People’s Power Coalition will occur the last Tuesday of every month at 6:00pm.
